This Privacy Policy describes how GapScout ("GapScout", "we", "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares information in connection with the GapScout application (the "Application") and this website, gapscoutme.github.io (the "Website"). It also describes how the Application accesses and handles data obtained from Google services, including data obtained through the Google Ads API. Please read it carefully. By using the Website or the Application, you agree to the practices described here.
GapScout is a private market-research application with a single user: the person who operates it (the "operator"). It is not offered to the public and has no customer or end-user accounts. Most sections below therefore describe data that is not collected, so that there is no ambiguity about what the Application does.
GapScout is operated by an individual developer. For any question about this policy, about the data the Application handles, or to exercise any of the rights described in section 9, contact us at gapscoutme@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 14 days.
The Website is a static, informational site. It does not have forms, accounts, comments, or any feature that asks you for information. Specifically, the Website:
The Website is hosted by GitHub, Inc. on GitHub Pages. As with any web host, GitHub's servers may record standard technical logs when a page is requested, such as the requesting IP address, browser type, and time of the request, for security and operational purposes. GapScout does not receive or use these logs. GitHub's handling of that information is described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
The Application runs locally on the operator's own computer. It has no sign-up, no user accounts, no public interface, and no server operated by GapScout. It does not collect, store, or process personal information about members of the public, customers, or any third party.
The information the Application works with falls into three categories:
This section applies to information the Application receives from Google APIs. It is written to comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The Application connects to the Google Ads API using OAuth 2.0 authorization that the operator grants for the operator's own Google Ads account. It requests the Google Ads API scope (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/adwords). Within that scope the Application reads only Keyword Planner data: search-volume estimates, competition indicators, and cost-per-click bid estimates for keywords that the operator enters. The Application does not read campaign performance reports, billing or payment information, audience lists, customer lists, conversion data, or the contents of any advertisement.
Google data is used for one purpose only: to estimate the paid-search demand and customer-acquisition cost for a market the operator is researching, inside the operator's own analyses. It is not used for advertising, for serving or targeting ads, for building profiles of any person, for credit or eligibility decisions, or for any other purpose. The Application is read-only with respect to Google Ads: it never creates, edits, enables, pauses, or deletes campaigns, ad groups, ads, keywords, budgets, or account settings.
Values fetched from the Google Ads API are stored in a local database on the operator's computer, together with the date retrieved and a reference to the source, so that each estimate can be traced. OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored locally on the same computer in a configuration file that is excluded from version control and never published. The Application does not transmit Google data or tokens to any server operated by GapScout or to any other party. Access to the computer is protected by the operating system's user login and disk encryption.
Google user data is not shared with, sold to, rented to, or transferred to any third party. It is not shared with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers. It is not used, and will not be used, to develop, improve, or train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models, whether generalized or otherwise. Humans do not read Google user data except the operator, who is the account owner, and then only within the Application.
Fetched values are kept until the operator deletes them or replaces them with a newer fetch for the same keyword. The operator can delete all stored Google data at any time by removing the records from the local database. The operator can revoke the Application's access to the Google Ads account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions; after revocation the stored tokens are invalid and the Application can no longer make requests.
All information handled by the Application is used only to produce the operator's market analyses: estimating market size, demand, pricing, acquisition cost, revenue, and viability for a given market. There is no secondary use.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share any information handled by the Application or the Website with third parties, with the following narrow exceptions:
The Application stores data only on the operator's own computer, which is protected by operating-system login and disk encryption. Credentials and tokens are kept out of source control. The Website is served over HTTPS only. No method of storage is perfectly secure, but the Application's design, with no server and no public access, keeps the amount of data at risk to a minimum.
Public statistical data and Google data are retained in the local database for as long as they are useful for the operator's research and are refreshed or deleted as sources are updated. Nothing is retained on any GapScout server, because there is none.
Because neither the Website nor the Application collects personal information from the public, there is normally no personal data of yours for us to access, correct, or delete. If you believe the Application holds information about you (for example, business contact details drawn from a public register), you may ask us at the address in section 1 to confirm what we hold, correct it, or delete it, and we will do so unless a legal obligation prevents it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
The Website and the Application are not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction) and do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
The Application runs, and its data is stored, on the operator's computer in the United States. The Website is served by GitHub from servers that may be located in the United States or elsewhere.
The Website links to third-party sites (for example GitHub and Google documentation). Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Material changes to how Google user data is handled will be reflected here before they take effect.
